UUID Generator

A UUID (universally unique identifier), called a GUID in the Microsoft world, is a 128-bit ID like 3f2b8c1e-9d4a-4f6e-b8a1-2c7d5e9f0a13. You can generate one anywhere, at any time, without checking a central database, and still be confident nobody else will ever produce the same value. That makes UUIDs the go-to choice for database keys, API request IDs, file names, test data and distributed systems. This free UUID generator creates them instantly in your browser using the cryptographically secure random generator built into it. Choose version 4, the classic fully random UUID with 122 random bits, or version 7, the newer standard from RFC 9562. Version 7 starts with a millisecond timestamp, so IDs sort in creation order, which keeps database indexes compact and fast. Generate one or up to 1,000 at a time, format them in uppercase, without hyphens or wrapped in {braces} for .NET and registry use, then copy them all or download them as a text file. Paste any UUID into the validator to see whether it's well-formed and which version it is, and for v7, when it was created. Nothing is sent to a server.

How to generate UUIDs

  1. Choose v4 or v7 and how many.
  2. Pick a format.
  3. Press Generate, then copy or download.

v4 or v7?

  • v4: fully random; reveals nothing about when it was made.
  • v7: sortable by time; better as a database primary key.

FAQ

Can two UUIDs ever be the same?

In theory, yes, but for v4 the odds are so small that you’d need to generate billions per second for decades to expect one collision.

Is a GUID the same as a UUID?

Yes. GUID is Microsoft’s name for the same 128-bit format.

Are these secure random?

Yes. They use crypto.getRandomValues. Still, don’t use UUIDs as passwords or secret tokens.

Are generated UUIDs stored?

No. They exist only in your browser.
