AI Image Generator

Want to turn an idea into a picture without paying for a subscription or creating yet another account? This free AI image generator turns a written description into an original image right on this page. Type what you want to see, such as "a cosy reading nook in a London flat on a rainy evening", choose a style like photorealistic, digital art, watercolour, anime or 3D render, pick a size for Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest or a blog header, and press Generate. A few seconds later your image appears, ready to download. There's no sign-up, no credit card, no API key and no Botvana watermark (the free service adds a small pollinations.ai mark in one corner) to set up. The images are made by open models served through Pollinations.AI, a free and open-source AI platform, with its safety filter switched on so the tool stays suitable for work and school. It's a handy way to make blog thumbnails, social posts, mood boards, presentation slides, story illustrations and placeholder art for websites in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany or anywhere else. Because the free service is shared by everyone, each visitor can make one image roughly every 45 seconds, and we show a countdown so you know when the next one is ready.

How to use the free AI image generator

  1. Describe the picture. Write one or two sentences about the subject, the setting and the mood. Specific nouns beat vague adjectives, so "a red fox curled up in fresh snow at dawn" works better than "a beautiful animal".
  2. Pick a style. The style menu adds proven keywords to your prompt. Choose "None" if you've written your own style words.
  3. Choose a size. Match the platform you're designing for: square for Instagram feed posts, 16:9 for YouTube thumbnails and blog headers, 9:16 for Stories, Reels and TikTok covers, and 2:3 for Pinterest pins.
  4. Set or randomise the seed. The seed is the starting noise the model draws from. Keep the same seed and prompt to get the same image again; change the seed to get a fresh variation of the same idea.
  5. Generate and download. Press Generate, wait a few seconds, then save the result with the Download button.

Writing prompts that look good

AI image models respond best to prompts that read like a short caption written by a photographer or illustrator. Start with the main subject, then add what it's doing, where it is, the lighting and the camera or art style. For example: "a golden retriever puppy chasing soap bubbles in a sunny back garden, golden hour light, shallow depth of field, photorealistic". Lighting words such as golden hour, soft studio light, neon glow or overcast daylight change the feel of an image more than almost anything else. If you need ideas, our AI image prompt generator builds detailed prompts from menus, and you can paste the result straight into this tool.

Keep each prompt focused on one scene. Free models can struggle with readable text inside images, exact hand positions, and scenes with many different people, so if you need a logo or a headline, add the words afterwards in an editor like Canva. Longer is not always better: around 20 to 60 words is the sweet spot for most open models.

What can you use the images for?

People use free AI images for blog featured images, social media graphics, Pinterest pins, YouTube thumbnail backgrounds, class presentations, story illustrations for kids, product mock-ups and website placeholders. Before using an image commercially, read the current terms of the image service and remember a few common-sense rules. Don't create images of real people without their consent, don't copy trademarked characters or logos, and don't present AI art as a real photograph in news or reviews. In the United States the Copyright Office has said that purely AI-generated images generally can't be registered for copyright, so treat them as useful assets rather than exclusive artwork. Rules in the UK, EU, Canada and Australia are still evolving, so check local guidance if it matters for your business.

Limits and privacy

This tool is free because the generation runs on Pollinations.AI's free, shared, best-effort service. To keep it fair, each visitor (per internet connection) can create one image about every 45 seconds, and at busy times the service may ask us to wait a few seconds; the tool retries automatically. Your prompt is sent to Pollinations to create the image, so don't type personal or confidential information into it. Identical prompts with the same seed may be cached and visible to anyone who has the same link, so treat prompts as public. The safety filter is always on, and some prompts may be refused. Botvana doesn't store your prompts or images on our side.

FAQ

Is this AI image generator really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no credit card and no API key. It uses the free tier of Pollinations.AI, which is rate-limited to about one image every 45 seconds per visitor.

Which AI model makes the images?

Pollinations routes free requests to open-source image models. The exact model can change over time as the service updates, which is why results can vary from week to week.

Can I use the images on my blog or business?

Pollinations states that both free and commercial use are permitted, but you are responsible for what you create. Avoid real people, brands and copyrighted characters, and check the service terms for current rules.

Why does it say the server is busy?

The free service is shared by many people. When it is at capacity it asks clients to retry after a few seconds. The tool retries up to three times automatically.

How do I get the same image again?

Use exactly the same prompt, style, size and seed. Change only the seed to get a different variation of the same idea.

Is there a content filter?

Yes. Safe mode is always on, so adult or harmful content is blocked. Some borderline prompts may also be refused.
