Image Compressor

Big images slow down websites, bounce back from email, and get rejected by upload forms with a 1 MB or 2 MB limit. This free image compressor makes JPG, PNG and WebP files smaller in seconds. Choose a quality level and an output format, and you'll see the original size, the new size and how much you saved before you download. Most online compressors upload your photo to their server first. This one works differently: the image is compressed by your own browser using the HTML canvas, so your photos stay private and there's no daily limit. For blogs, a quality of 70 to 80% in WebP or JPG usually cuts file size by half or more with little visible difference, which also helps your Core Web Vitals scores in Google.

Your image is processed on your device and never uploaded. Photo metadata such as camera details and GPS location is removed in the compressed copy.

How to compress an image

  1. Choose a photo from your phone or computer.
  2. Move the quality slider. The compressed size updates automatically.
  3. Pick WebP for websites, or JPG if you need it to open everywhere.
  4. Optionally set a maximum width. Resizing a 4,000-pixel phone photo down to 1,600 pixels saves far more than quality alone.
  5. Click Download.

FAQ

Will compressing reduce quality?

JPG and WebP compression is "lossy", so some detail is removed. Between 70% and 85% the difference is usually hard to see. Compare the preview before you download.

Why did my PNG get bigger?

PNG is lossless, so the browser can’t trade quality for size. For photos, switch the format to JPG or WebP. Keep PNG for logos and screenshots with transparency.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Compression happens in your browser using the canvas API. Nothing is sent to Botvana or any server.

Is there a file size limit?

No set limit. Very large images (over about 50 megapixels) can be slow on older phones.
