Webcam Test

Before a job interview, a client call or a livestream, it's worth a quick check that your camera works and looks right. This free webcam test shows a live preview from your camera in one click. Press Start, allow camera access when your browser asks, and you'll see yourself along with the camera's name, the actual resolution it's sending (for example 1280×720 or 1920×1080) and a live frame rate measurement, which helps explain blurry or choppy video in Zoom, Teams or Google Meet. If your computer has more than one camera, such as a built-in webcam and a USB or phone camera, switch between them from the list, and try requesting HD or Full HD to see what your camera can really do. A mirror toggle lets you see the image the way you're used to seeing yourself (other people see it un-mirrored), and a snapshot button saves a still image so you can check framing and lighting. Everything stays on your device: video is shown directly in the page and is never recorded or uploaded, and the camera light switches off as soon as you press Stop or leave. Below are fixes for the most common problems on Windows, Mac and phones, plus quick lighting tips.

Camera not working? Quick fixes

  • Permission: click the camera icon in the address bar, allow the camera, and reload.
  • In use elsewhere: close Zoom, Teams, OBS or other apps that may be holding the camera.
  • Windows: Settings → Privacy & security → Camera → allow access for desktop apps and your browser.
  • Mac: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera → enable your browser.
  • Low frame rate: add light. Many webcams slow down in dim rooms to brighten the image.

FAQ

Is my video recorded or uploaded?

No. The preview is shown only in your browser and is never saved or sent. Snapshots stay in the page unless you save them.

Why is my camera only 640×480?

Some browsers start at a low resolution. Choose HD or Full HD; if it stays low, your camera or USB port may not support more.

Why does my video look mirrored?

The preview is mirrored like a mirror by default. Other people on calls see the un-mirrored view. Untick “Mirror preview” to see that.

Why is the frame rate low?

Low light, a busy CPU, or a USB 2.0 connection can reduce frame rate. Good front lighting often fixes it.
